At Matta Cafe in Portland’s Pearl District, we invite you on an adventure into the world of coffee. Our family business, founded by Manuel and Aura Matta, is rooted in Santa Marta, Colombia, where we grow exceptional coffee on our 59-acre farm in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
With care and precision, we craft specialty coffees that reflect the rich flavors of the Santa Marta region. Our mission is to close the gap between farmers and coffee lovers, bringing our story from Colombia to Portland — one cup at a time.
Manuel Matta
Introducing Manuel Matta, a successful agronomist specializing in the production of specialty coffees. With more than two decades of experience, Manuel has worked extensively in coffee harvests in Colombia and El Salvador. He is widely recognized as a leading expert in the field and has dedicated his entire career to perfecting the art of producing specialty coffees.
What sets Manuel apart is his unwavering commitment to coffee production. He prioritizes sustainability and environmentally friendly practices, emphasizing precision farming techniques. Through his vast experience, and innovative processes, Manuel has become the largest producer of natural and honey coffee in the Caribbean region of Colombia.
Manuel’s passion for agronomy stems from his upbringing on a mango farm, leading him to specialize in the world of coffee production. His dedication has earned him recognition in the industry and his specialty coffees are highly sought after for their unique flavors and profiles. Aura Matta
Aura Matta, daughter of coffee expert Manuel Matta, is a dedicated Colombian coffee producer with over a decade of experience in the coffee and foreign trade industries. She began as a Colombian export promoter, helping coffee producers in the Magdalena region succeed in international markets.
With a deep love for coffee and a sharp focus on quality, Aura has transformed her family’s coffee farm into a thriving business. Her leadership led to the creation of Matta Cafe, now operating in both Colombia and Portland, Oregon, bringing authentic, specialty Colombian coffee directly to U.S. consumers.
